Building Colonies for Specific Purposes

|

Published: Nov 1, 08:48 PM by: Robert ~ Voidhawk

This question was posted by Zack as a comment… I thought it was worth its own topic… so here goes:

Would it be a good idea to build colonies for a specific purpose? For example, colonies in the lower positions to be used with most fields for Mines and using satelites to power them, and a colony in the last positions for Deut? On that thought, if a defense defeats an attack, do the satelites still get destroyed? If so, powering the mining planet solely by solar satelites is a very bad idea.

Would it be a good idea to build colonies for a specific purpose?

It depends. It depends on several factors. How big is the colony in question? If it is small, it might be better to specialize in one particular resource.

I make all my planets (now that they are all 250+) mine all three resources. I have enough fields that it’s worth it to me. When I had smaller planets (less than 150) I specialised some. I always had Deuterium Plants, but I did either Crystal or Metal. If you don’t put at least a low level Deuterium Plant, then you have to shop in any Deuterium before you can ship out your resources.

If a defense defeats an attack, do the satelites still get destroyed?

Yes… Solar Satellites will be one of the first things destroyed… even if you have large defenses. Every attacking ship has Rapid Fire against Solar Satellites. So they usually end up as space dust (er… part of the debris fields) pretty quick.

OGame Tips Strategy Guide

  1. If you upgrade the Robotic Factory to level 10, then build a Nanite Factory, and deconstuct the Robotic Factory afterwards do you still keep the Nanite Factory (and its abilities)? I am asking this question here because it would be a good strategy to follow on small planets since the 10 fields used up by the R.F. eliminate the need for level 2 or 3 terraformer.

  2. I have a friend in the top 100, he reccomends making each colony as strong as the other 1, ie. if main colony has level 20 mines, then all your colonies should have level 20 mines, this way, you get more resources overall, i think this is a great idea, because before, i used to send all resources to my main planet. then after a while the resources i was sending was only like 1/10 of what i needed, but now i have all planets mines level 20, and i am producing like 1million metal per 24 hours, it worked for me, you should give it a try.

  3. Argonaut: I built a Shipyard to level 7 on one of my planets and deconstructed the Robotic Factory to regain some fields, but the Shipyard was also deconstructed. I donít know if I got the fields back or lost any resources for deconstructing the 2 buildings, but for some reason I can still build fleets and defence without a Shipyard. I donít know if this is a glitch or what but I wouldnít risk deconstructing your Robotic Factory when you get a Nanite Factory since you face losing your Robotic Factory, Nanite Factory and any other buildings that needs a Robotic Factory (i.e. Shipyard).

  4. All that happens when deconstructing your robotics factory, after getting such ctructures as shipyard and nanite factory, is that you lose the ability to upgrade them. If your shipyard and nanites are at a satisfactory level then deconstructing your robotics factory is perfectly fine but otherwise it is unadvisable to do so

  6. @Prophet: you can’t surrender your main planet no matter what unless u delete your account. Only colonies can be surrendered

    — jarod    Feb 23, 09:52 PM    #
  7. You cannot surrender your home planet. Although the surrender button is there, if you click it then it says that you cannot surrender your home planet

  8. I’m just wondering, I have made two colonies that do not produce ANY deuterium each with level 5+ deuterium plants, why is this? my other colonies are fine, allthough these two colonies have below 150 slots, just confused lol

  12. If you send a colonization ship to some free slot, 7hours away, is it possible that when it gets there, that slot might have been taken already, in the time between sending it and getting there?

YUP, this happens all the time in the busy galaxies… your colony ship, now has to make a 7 hour return journey.. but when it comes home, you can use it again.

  15. any1 no how much crystal and metal u recieve from level 35 mines

    — ?    Jun 10, 07:47 AM    #
  16. “any1 no how much crystal and metal u recieve from level 35 mines”

    www.o-calc.com

However, given that people are lazy, I’ll do the work for you:

Metal Mine (level 35) = 29,507 metal per hour

Crystal Mine (level 35) = 19,671 crystal per hour

Good point by mola as well. Negotiating with attackers might work, but chances are they’ll still try to screw you over during the trade (by not sending their “payment” when you send yours).

  17. I’m new. can you give me reccomendations and tips. On what I should do, and build.

    — The emperor    Aug 1, 09:58 AM    #
  18. The emperor build your metal mine, crystal mine, up to about lvl 6 and your solar planet always keep that up about 2 from what your highest mine is.. as you need the energy to produce metal, crystle. and then work on your duet mine… and keep building the miens as high as you can before going for a shipyard and stuff..

  22. Can I have 9 planets AND 1 (or more) moons ?

    — ezenkiel    Dec 11, 07:32 AM    #
  23. each planet can have a moon, so there is a max of 9 planets and 9 moons (1 for each)

    Soul Decay    Jan 17, 05:31 PM    #
  24. Unless someone else already had a moon on your planets position. Then theres no chance of another moon.
