Question: My Espionage Probes got Destroyed?

|

Published: Feb 15, 04:32 PM by: Robert ~ Voidhawk

The Question:

I dont know what just happened, but I sent 5 espionage probes to spy on one guy, then they got destroyed?!?

The Answer:

This happens when your espionage probes get detected during a spy mission. They go into combat. Since Espionage Probes have the worst fighting capability of any of the mobile ships (Solar Sats are worse, but they can’t move) they get destroyed easily.

Although it is possible to get detected during a spy mission and win the fight… but very very rare!

  1. What if…
You really needed to probe someone who had like level 12 esp. tech and you couldn’t spare the 5 probes that are gonna get blown up when you send em…
And you send Battleships with them. If they get detected, do the B. Ships get involved in combat too or are they just along for the ride?

    — Ray    Feb 19, 03:14 AM    #
  2. Well, you could do this. Your battleships would greatly increase the odds your probes get spotted, and your probes would STILL die first. And if you won the fight, you wouldn’t be able to take any resources as you were on an espionage misson.

    — MoreBeer    Feb 21, 12:23 AM    #
  3. Yes, if the probes get detected, the B ships will come under attack, and they should fight back.

That is the WORST tactic I’ve ever heard! (or read whateva!)
    I agree with MoreBeer

  5. might as well just use the 5 esp probes

    — universe guy    Mar 11, 05:57 AM    #
  6. what destroy a probe? i have laser but the screen still says “counterspionage 0%”. maybe ships? in the latter case if i am attached and have laser and ships they defend togheter or i risk to have the ship destroyed and THEN the laser fighting? thanks

    — Blue    Mar 13, 02:29 PM    #
  7. Every ship and defense on the defending side enters the battle. The espionage probe has a base attack of .01, the chances of losing any ship is pretty much zero.

On the sending of other ships besides probes on espionage missions, it would be an interesting way to avoid the bashing rule and still execute a crash.

  8. what gives you points?

    — Adrian    Mar 21, 02:01 PM    #
  9. you can get points up by building more stuff and go on it more often

    — D J    Mar 29, 10:37 AM    #
  10. lol, incorrect
You can send as many ship to ESP mission, but it travel the slowet ship speed so if u send 1 BS with it and chance are it got defence your BS die with it, if I win you capture 50% what ever resource that u fleet can hold, Did that to annoy people, I selected entire fleet on esp mission, If they detected it is his fault :D
But once It fault to delect my probe with 400BS and You see ur chance of attacking gone :D so best no send fleet with ESP unless you want to annoy someone a lot low rank than u

    — shadws    Apr 5, 07:13 PM    #
  11. Rate of counterespionage is based on number of ships you send. So, if you want to avoid losing probes, send 1 probe to judge counterespionage. Then assume sending 5 would amplify counterespionage percentage by 5, and decide then if you want to risk it.

  12. How exactly can you build up counter espionage for your planet?

    — Drunkenmonkey18    Apr 9, 02:57 AM    #
  13. > How exactly can you build up counter espionage for your planet?

I’d like to know the same thing. I have Espionage Technology level 1 on my planet bt the messages still read Chance for counterespionage: 0 %.

    — anonymous    Apr 9, 03:51 AM    #
  14. counter intel means how uch chance there is to pot and kill his probes if it says 100% the battle report should be the next message

    — kill wizzy    Apr 9, 01:33 PM    #
  15. Yea, we know what it means, but how do you create the actual ‘Counter Espionage’ ?

    — Chaimee    Apr 10, 05:11 PM    #
  16. that is a very goo q i would like to know that but i don’t have to worry about my prob army :D i have esp lv 12 and they don’t get destroyed

    — Anthony    Apr 14, 07:46 PM    #
  17. I know your espionage level has to do a lot with it, but does your fleet and defenses count towards it???

    — wanna know 2    Apr 21, 02:38 AM    #
  18. Fleet and Defenses does have something to do with it from what I can tell. I sent 10 probes to guy who had fleet and defense, came back with 16% for counter espionage. Then after some big guy went and recycled that guys fleet and smacked his D down a fair bit, I sent the same 10 probes and got a counter espionage of 0% so while I don’t know any formula’s for it or anything it seems to have some effect.

    — Kzp    Apr 26, 02:31 AM    #
  19. I agree with Kzp i had some1 send 13 esp pro to me and had a counter spoinige of 17% then he launched 10 IPm on me and destroyed my defence spyd on me agian and then it was 0%

    — master_chief    May 1, 06:25 AM    #
  20. i dunno if there’s more to this, but from what I know, if there are NO SHIPS WHATSOEVER then there is a counterespionage of 0%. That part’s obvious. There is also a definite correlation between # of ships on the planet to c-esp. level. So just be sure to keep a bunch of probes on every planet.

    — ubersoldat    May 13, 10:02 PM    #
  21. kill wizzy-counter intel means how uch chance there is to pot and kill his probes if it says 100% the battle report should be the next message

ogame computers round so even if it says 100% it doesnt mean you will detect them….........its happened to me before

    — j-man    May 14, 11:18 PM    #
  22. Ya, I probed an inactive guy who had around 3m resources total. It said Counter Espionage 100% and my probe came back unharmed. Guess I just got lucky.

    — DDRin2fast4u    May 17, 10:16 PM    #
  23. concider this, if you have no espionarge probes and someone spies on you, you cany spy back from that planet, therfore the person receives a report saying chance of counter espionage 0% (because you cant from that planet)
Now your probes are destroyed if your oponants espionage tech is higher than yours by so many levels, i.e they are moe advanced and see you comming.
now the variables in between is another mistory.
from this i suggest 3 probes at each of your planets would prevent somone getting an espioage report back rom your planet saying chance of counter espionage =0% unless they were very advanced and were completely undected

    — whoop    May 18, 03:32 PM    #
  24. The counterespionage chance you get is determined by the difference in spy tech levels, the amount of incoming probes, and the amount of ships+def at the planet. So if you’ve got thousands of solar sats (for graviton) and have spy tech 11 (I know a guy who has just that) hardly any incoming probe will survive.

On a side note: counterespionage doesn’t mean you automatically spying his planet. It means the incoming probes getting into combat with your fleet+def. The attacker will still get his spy report, though.

    — Catrope    Jun 9, 01:07 PM    #
  25. here’s a hint:

do not spy on anyone ranked higher than you with more than 1 espionage probe or they wull go into combat! i am ranked top 400. i am letting you know.

    — tip_me    Jun 12, 05:45 PM    #
  26. R probes launched against you always detected (as in u get a mail bout it)
Or can u b probbed and never know bout i??

    — Gaz    Jun 14, 03:39 PM    #
  27. okay this is a little off topic but still. okay i raided a colony with 3 of my small cargoes but only one survived, yet my battle report never told me of any losses of ships. do you know any reason this might’ve happened?

    — vito    Jun 14, 10:44 PM    #
  28. in response to ‘tip_me’. . . . on my planet i have lv 7 esp, and a guy with level 10 esp probed me,and the counteresp was 0%, depite i had about 93 probes of my own on the planet. i rly think it must be a random thing, like being detected or not.

    — azzyp    Jun 24, 08:24 PM    #
  29. in respons to “vito” if u did not log on to your acount for a day or 2 in your overviw u se N+1 messages and when u go to read the messages u do not se them (that hapend u me) and a nother posibiliti is that your fleet got attackt on ther way home
or u did not pay that much atention u the battle report

    — durebista    Jul 1, 08:34 AM    #
  30. i had 461 espionage probes on my planet, plus many other ships, and esp tech lvl 8, and i still got spied on with a chance of counter espionage of 16%. no one had gotten thru before, so why did this guy do it?

    — knighty    Jul 3, 05:38 AM    #
  31. One problem with the explanation: esp probes will NEVER DESTROY ANYTHING

Go on, speedsim err 1,000,000 probes with a LF
    See what happens

    — Obscurans    Jul 22, 10:21 AM    #
  32. ok plain and simple to counter esp do you have to have a combination of esp lvl tech and and a high ship number or is it just one or the other

    — Jimmy The Pyro    Aug 9, 07:10 AM    #
  33. Quoted from http://board.ogame.org/thread.php?threadid=89308

    Espionage Probe

This is used to spy on planets to see what is on those planets. The success of the Espionage depends on the Level of both players’ Espionage Technology Level. If you send 1 Espionage Probe you will see the Resources on the Planet, 2 Espionage Probes will see Fleet, 3 Espionage Probes wil see Defences, 5 Espionage Probes will see Buildings, and 7 Espionage Probes will see the Researched Technologies. If the enemy’s Espionage Technology Level is higher than your’s, you must send more Espionage Probes to see the same information.
The Requirements for this Ship are Shipyard Level 3, Combustion Engine Level 3, and Espionage Technology Level 2.
The formula for the extra number of Espionage Probes needed is ((“Enemy Level”-”Level”;)^2)

    Hoped that helped.

  36. I sent some espionage probes to a planet, they got destroyed, but i received the report. It didn´t said anything about a shipyard or a fleet. Does that means he doesn´t have a fleet?

    — Elite Xaos    Dec 15, 08:41 AM    #
  37. Xaos: depends on howmany probes you have sent and what’s the tech difference…. eveything is written a few posts above.

    — Roshi    Dec 15, 05:31 PM    #
  38. send a couple ships along with you onyour espionage mission and if they get spotted the ships will probly attack

    — Dennis    Feb 9, 04:04 PM    #
  39. It sucks that when Esp probes get destroyed the other guy gets a battle report and he still finds out what your defenses are.

    — GT Kakashi    Mar 3, 07:19 PM    #
  40. I sent 1 espionage probe to spy on another player and only got a report on ther resourses and mine levels, does that person net have any defences/ships or is the espionage report just incomplete. If the later how do I get a full espionage report?

    — Ichimaru    Mar 11, 11:16 AM    #
  41. Just send 2 probes to spot any defences.

if they don’t have any (highly unlikely on high level players’ planets) then send as many as you want.

    p.s. i only need to send 3.

p.p.s. ichumaru, it means you should send more probes to get a full report, A complete repot will still say:
    Resources
    Buildings
    etc.
Even if they don’t have any.

  42. are you sure def affects conter esp? A guy i spied had 19 rl and srill had 0 counter esp

    — blobzor    May 31, 10:59 AM    #
  43. Im not getting a full espionage report and i attacked the guy and he destroyed me….Why

    — Charger720    Aug 9, 09:17 AM    #
  44. ok i skipped bassically all the things you guys wrote (no offense) but i just had to say this…

WHAT POINT IS THERE TO SENDING 5 PROBES INSTEAD OF JUST ONE! THAT’S PROBABLY WHY THEY GOT DETECTED!

    — ?    Aug 29, 12:55 PM    #
  47. My god, some of you need to learn English grammar. Your words are making my eyes bleed! Ok, to ‘Zack’. If you only send one probe, there is a high chance that you won’t get all the information. Unless your ESP level is alot higher than his, you should send at least 4 probes. Sometimes up to eight if he is much higher than you.

    — Niea    Sep 16, 01:29 AM    #
  48. can I espo myself and find out why I can’t sleep at night… oh wait, its because no one reads the rules or tips of the game. Then they would know why send more than 1 espo and why it got blowed up and why you may still get the report even if it got blowed up

    — Dan    Sep 28, 02:36 PM    #
  49. I probed someone with 30 and all I got was the minimum information

    — Steve    Oct 3, 09:22 PM    #
  50. Couldn’t you see the basic information you need for a battle using two probes? Sending 1 to attack will result in a battle report, showing you their fleet, defense and armour, shields and weapons technology (basically all you need) and then send one to see their resources.

    samwarrior    Oct 4, 07:58 PM    #
  51. In answer to samwarrior — sending a probe to attack usually results in a report that ONLY says, “contact was lost with the fleet, because it was shot down in the first round”...unless, of course, there are NO defenses on the planet, in which case the brave little probe wins the battle, and returns home, a seasoned and victorious warrior. ;)

    — Pakrat    Oct 24, 09:06 AM    #
  52. If you dont get a full esp report that means your target’s esp tech is higher than yours. The most information you can get from a planet is research. If you cant see more than resources, send more probes. “http://ogame.wikia.com/wiki/Espionage_Technology” this site shows how many probes you need to overcome the difference in esp tech. Also I’ve found that probes contribute greatly to counter-espionage. The orbiting fleet adds little to counter-esp and defense adds even less if any. Assuming equal esp tech, if you get get probed by 5 probes and you have 10 probes at your planet, your counter-esp would lower than if you had 20 probes. But it really doesnt matter if the probes are shot down because the report is sent anyway. Hope this helps.

    — Calcutter    Oct 31, 01:56 AM    #
  53. I found this quote on Wiki.

“Counter-espionage is destroying enemy Espionage Probes that are trying to spy on your planet. Your chance for counter espionage is determined by two things: the number of ships you have in orbit and the difference in Espionage Technology level between you and the player probing you.”

At least it says that ships are a factor, but unfortunately no formula for an exact calculation.
